I wanted to pick up a small ukulele for traveling and to experiment with low G's on a short scale uke (just to see if it can be done) and this 18" travel sopranissimo fit the bill. It's actually 18" overall, but still has an 11" scale length making it a sopranissimo. The 18" makes it very hard to squeeze into a sopranissimo case (like my Ohana 17" that I really like) and it felt like the case may bend the wooden neck, so I bought a new Ohana Sopranino (19") case for it. The uke came bare bones - no case, tuner, spare strings, capos, etc.. so it's relatively a tad more expensive than other "starter packages" with all the extras, but it's a better price coming without them, which is great if you don't need all of that. It did come with 2 strap buttons pre-installed which was a nice addition.Playability: The action was pretty good right out of the box. It has a fair width nut with good string spacing for my average sized hands, but still plays "tight" because the frets are very close together. It feels even tighter because the tuning machines are very close to the nut, so I bump the knobs while playing close to the nut, occasionally. The A string is very close to the edge of the fret board, too, so I've fallen off a couple times doing pull-offs. It didn't sound too great with the stock aquilas in the GCEA tuning so I moved it up to the standard A,D,F#,B which improved the sound a lot. It was still a bit plasticky-resonant so I changed the strings to an aquila red low G (as a low A), Thomastic Infield CF27 (as the D), and Worth Brown E & A strings (as the F# & B). Sounds way better (pretty good for the size - no it won't compete with a concert or soprano but you can't zip one of them up in a backpack either). It still needs a little fiddling with the Low A to perk that up a little bit. With the extra $25 in strings it now sounds better than my Enya brand sopranissimo uke, so I'm happy with my purchase.I would buy this model again, because it does have a good sound for it's exceptionally portable size.Hope this helps. Happy uking!Hard to believe this was only $85. Fit, finish and playability are excellent. I suggest getting one now before the price goes up, which it will do when people find out what a deal this is! Oh, yeah, and it looks great, too.I've been searching for a supranimo for ages and I finally found this one. Exactly as described and better. It's absolutely adorable. With the slightest movement of my hand I can reach up and down the fret board. I truly recommend this for any beginners or any pros who'd love to travel and bring their music with them. Was advertised as like new condition, so I thought I would save a couple of dollars. I really like the ukulele and how well it is made. The tone is good, tunes easily and simple chords sound very good--much better than my abilities. I am excited to play this instrument and pass from the beginner to intermediate stage. The instrument will still be adequate as my abilities progress. However, the condition was not what I expected. It appears to have been heavily used and picked with a rigid pick and not strummed with a finger. Both sides of the sound hole are defaced and heavily worn. The back of the ukulele also appears worn as if the previous user was rubbing the instrument against a belt or shirt buttons. The beautiful tiger flame pattern of the okoume wood is obscured.I am disappointed that I went cheap and did not purchase the same ukulele new. I can find no other problems with my examination of the instrument and I am sure that after acceptance of its used condition, I will be quite pleased with it. I would upload a picture showing the defacement, but am not proficient enough to do so.I make ukuleles as a hobby and belong to 3 ukulele playing groups so I get to see a lot of different ukes. This Kmise laminated mahogany soprano ukulele is one that I would definitely recommend. It is well made and has a wooden rosette and bound fretboard, features not often found on inexpensive ukes. It has an open pore satin finish which on my instrument is flawless. It is loud and has a pleasant tone, again much better than to be expected. The action is exactly as it should be and there are no sharp frets. It has a compensated bone saddle so it plays in tune all the way up the fretboard. This means it’s easy to play and a beginner should be able to progress quickly. The lightly padded case is better than that provided on most similar priced ukes. The tuner works fine, there are already 2 strap buttons attached and a strap is provided. There’s also a small playing guide which will help in getting started. The instrument sounds great with the strings fitted (and there’s a spare set) so there’s no need to rush out to buy alternative strings. (Please note all new strings stretch and it will take 2 or 3 days before the strings will stay in tune).I think anyone looking for a first instrument for a child or an adult considering learning to play the ukulele should buy this kit. I don’t see how they could be disappointed.I'm a total beginner, so take my review from a beginner perspective. I wanted a ukulele for my 6 year old who expressed a desire to learn to play. But my research for many of the cheap options suggested it wasn't worth buying a very cheap one. This one had reasonable reviews, even by experienced players. So after much deliberation I decided to pay a little extra and get this one. It came with the bag, the tuner, the hook and a strap.. I've played the violin, piano, flute and guitar and this looks pretty well made. The neck is smooth, the wood looks good quality, the back is properly made, no sharp bits or badly glued bits. It sounds good. But then again I've never played a ukulele before. In order to teach my son, I've been learning and I love it. A lovely rich but that light fun sound you get with a ukulele. I'm very happy with it and I think it will last him (and me) a long time. This is the second Kmise Uke i’ve Bought. My first was a more expensive starter version which I love. I have since bought a couple of high end Ukes which are wonderful but i still love playing my original Kmise. I just bought this package for my young son who wants to learn. I was expecting something quite flimsy but this is fab! Its just great. The sound - its lovely and full. Great quality instrument and all the things i need to get him started. It looks good too - not a toy! I’ve bought starter ukes before for similar prices and have found them impossible to keep in tune. I just love this! My son is so happy!
